This year’s International Dance Day landed on a Monday when I only teach STRONG by Zumba and not Zumba. So with the new #ZumbaBreaks campaign, I decided to do just that… break into a Zumba song in the middle of their workout! They had no idea so it was a surprise.
Mind you, I have learned that those who love STRONG by Zumba are not fond of Zumba. They are not dance lovers, but more HIIT lovers (High Intensity Interval Training) so you can only imagine what they felt when they heard that we were going to dance. I’m sure some wanted to kill me… but one song won’t kill them!

During the day, I am a realtor who helps clients buy, sell and even rent homes. Working with so many different personalities, it can become a bit stressful. I find that ending my day with a workout helps me get my mind off of work and back to myself and my health. I also find that I am not alone.
I also teach fitness classes at night (STRONG by Zumba & Zumba) and have learned that many of my students have their own kind of stress. Some are college students, some work in an office all day, some may have been laid off, have their own problems at work/home, and some are super moms and dads who play every role a human can play and more. The variety of stress levels are endless, but the one thing we have in common is that we choose fitness to deal with our stress.
Whatever your day may look like, whatever problems you may have, whatever negative feelings you are feeling… taking a fitness class helps make the stress go away during that one-hour you dedicate to yourself. Once you finish your workout, your endorphins kicks in and you begin to feel good about yourself naturally. It’s a win-win situation.
Remember, the harder the workout is, the more you feel a sense of accomplishment when you complete it. End result, self-esteem goes up, mood is positive and you leave feeling like you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way because your stress level went back down again. This is how you deal with stress the fit way.

What is STRONG by Zumba? Well, it definitely isn’t a dance class. It is a High Intensity Interval Training workout also known in the fitness world as HIIT. Where does Zumba fit into the equation? Zumba reverse-engineered each song to match the moves and intensity to help push you through each squat, lunge, burpee and even pushups.
Why do I love it? Let me tell you, it’s intense. I consider myself an active person, but always had trouble losing my baby fat, especially around my waist. It’s challenging and sometimes my heart-rate is through the ceiling, but the results have been amazing. Because I am so active, STRONG by Zumba forces me to take my fitness to the next level with no way around it. I’ll post my before & after photo soon, but so far this has been the only workout where I see the changes in my body and feel stronger at the same time. So if you want to take your fitness to the next level and really challenge yourself, I highly suggest taking a class and see if it’s the right workout for your fitness goals.

When I first heard this song, I couldn’t wait to add it to my playlist for my Zumba® class. Sure Zumba® can be high-energy and a non-stop exhilarating hour-long workout, but it’s also good to bring the heart rate down after it’s been up for a couple of energetic songs. It helps the heart become stronger and build it’s endurance.
Plus, I enjoy when my students can actually learn some dance moves and then add their own flavor to it. I want my students to dance with me and feel like they can master learning choreo so they can practice it on their own. No one wants to feel lost all the time, at least I don’t like to. Once you learn the choreo and hear the song in class, you can dance to it and feel good that you got the choreo down packed. Then it’s time for a new song, new choreo, and new dance moves to learn. Learning never stops. Dancing to new rhythms should never stop as well.
I wonder what style of dance or genre of music will be next. I guess you have to stick around to find out 🙂

“I just don’t have time to workout!” How many of us have said that before? I sure know that I’m guilty of saying it and I’m pretty sure many others have too. Ever wonder how people could spend 2+ hours in the gym without a care in the world? No kids to run home to or pick up from school, no dinners to make, no emails to reply to and no assignments with end-of-day deadlines to provide. Sounds like heaven, but realistically we all have some form of responsibilities that has to be taken care of and our priorities differ for everyone.
The good thing about fitness is that you don’t have to spend hours in the gym to get a complete workout… really, you don’t! You don’t have to run on the treadmill for an hour to have an effective cardio session and you don’t have to lift heavy, heavy weights to build muscle. There are so many options in fitness and it doesn’t require hours that you don’t have to get your workout in the day. It just takes a effective exercises that gets your body and heart-rate moving… period.
Let’s start off with cardio… at least 30 min of cardio… that’s it! Find an activity that gets your heart-rate up… and then back down… then back up again… and finally back down to where you started. This could be a jog around the neighborhood or park, a group-fitness class like Zumba or just plain old jumping jacks and/or jump rope for 30 min. Aim for 3 days a week (Let’s say Monday, Wednesday & Friday) where you can just focus on your heart rate and then you can get back to your daily routine of responsibilities.
Next is weight training. So many exercises you can do in just 30 min and you don’t have to target one body part at a time (like who has time for that?!?). Grab some dumbbells or a medicine ball and combine 2 exercises in one. For example, you can do a Squat and Overhead Press or Lunge and Bicep Curl just to give you some ideas. Check out my video below of other ideas of exercises you can do that hits both upper body and lower body at the same time. Aim for 2 days a week (Tuesday & Thursday) to start off with and complete each exercises with 3 sets of 15 reps. Find a weight that you can hold during each movement and challenges you well. Increase the weight as you become stronger.
By implementing just 30 min out of your busy day to get your workout in, you will see the changes over time so don’t give up! Remember, a little bit goes a long way.

Since the switch to the new owner, many changes have been made that makes my home gym now my most favorite gym starting off with the studio color. I mean how fun and energetic is that wall color? No wonder I love this color so much! Couldn’t describe me better than this which is probably why I was so drawn to the color when I first walked in. Now my question is, what’s your favorite color? This is one of my favorite songs to dance to in my #Zumba classes. Why? Because my students love it and it gives them the opportunity to really get down and have fun with me which is what I strive for in each of my Zumba classes.
One of the biggest challenges I have faced as an instructor is the location of my classes not being convenient for my followers. I am originally from Miami now living in Fort Lauderdale and I teach mostly in Broward County and even Palm Beach County (which are the 2 counties north of Miami-Dade County). A majority of Miami residents do not travel outside of the 305 and I don’t blame them. As for me, to drive to Miami to teach and hour long class is not ideal mostly because traffic is so so bad here. My point is, I teach all over the place and it makes it difficult for my followers and even friends to take my class. My students that do come to my class are gym members who live locally, which I love & appreciate my local students so much!
Because of this, I record my choreo to the songs I use for my classes to reach my followers so they can dance with me wherever they are located. And trust me guys, it’s not to become famous because being famous is not my goal in life. Believe it or not, I am very introverted and reserved to be famous. I am a shadow and always been a shadow, but this shadow loves music and dance so I create my craft for the rest to enjoy. Seeing others enjoy my work makes me feel good which is why I continue despite all the obstacles I’ve encountered.

After 2 months of personal training with Bobby at The Custom Fitness Institute, the final results are now in. If you have been following lunasol vida on Instagram, you would have seen the workouts I was doing at my training sessions. If you haven’t seen it, have no fear because I will be posting it on this blog to recap the type of workouts I did to burn fat & gain muscles. After this experience, I learned what I have to do to get rid of the stubborn fat that doesn’t want to leave, the proper way to build muscle and can’t wait to share my knowledge to everyone who wants to do the same.

Learn why it’s so important to take body measurements rather than weighing yourself on the scale to determine your progress. Yes, it’s true… I can dance for hours & run for miles, but ask me to go to the gym to lift weights and I’m lost (and will probably end up in the group-fitness studio instead). It’s not my favorite activity and I’m sure many can relate.
